Klemkestrasse 114, 13158 Berlin
- Died trying to escape the GDR
- Lost his life on April 29th, 1962
- Was 19 years old
Horst Frank was a boy like any other boy. He was 19 years old when he decided he had it with the political system. At that time, it was more common to have successful escapes than deaths at the Berlin Wall, so he thought he should try.
Horst is one of the known 138 victims made by the Berlin Wall. He lost his life three days before his 20th birthday. On the next day, residents of West Berlin put up a cross on the side of the border that Horst could never reach. The cross was renovated in 2008 and you can still visit today. Despite of what the plaque on it says, Horst was still 19 when he was shot by border guards in 1962.
