Pallasstraße 30, 10781 Berlin
- 12 meters high
- 4 meters thick walls
An official place of remembrance since 2002, the Hochbunker in Pallasstrasse is impressive. If you had the chance of following Episode 83 to the Pallasseum, it is highly probable that you saw this bunker framing one of the building’s ends.
In 1945 and 1946, US soldiers had no luck in bringing the bunker down due to two main reasons: the bunker is in a residential area and big explosions could endanger its neighbors and well, bunkers are not built to be easily exploded. On the last years of the Cold War, the Hochbunker was expanded with new entrances and rooms of every floor.
Nowadays, the Hochbunker in Pallasstrasse can only be seen from the inside during the Day of the Open Monuments, but you can go at any time around it. It is still super worth it.
